Charlie Ross launches first attack ad on Phil Bryant

I have a very strict ad rating policy here at ROM if want an A going negative it better be slash and burn scorch the earth take no prisoners negative of course sometimes that backfires in Republican Primaries for sure.  We will see how this plays out, anxious to see the Bryant Response.

Not sure if this is a devastating blow or not

Charlie Ross Gets Right to Life Endorsement

July 12, 2007

This is a pretty big deal.

‘Sen. Charlie Ross on Thursday received a major endorsement in his bid for Lt. Governor from Mississippi Right to Life, one of Mississippi’s most prominent pro-life organizations.

“Receiving the endorsement from a group as dedicated and influential as Mississippi Right to Life is truly an humbling honor,” conservative candidate Charlie Ross said. “This group of men and women work tirelessly for a noble cause-the sanctity of human life, and I am proud to have served with them in their movement.”

This is more important as Charlie Ross tries to do the end around Bryant for the Hard Right voters.

Kudos to Cottonmouth Blog for Capturing the Ross Ad and getting it up on YouTube.

I have some critiques.  More on that later

OUCH! LT. GOV RACE OFFICIALLY GOES NEGATIVE!

June 4, 2007

I expected this would happen, but this is earlier than I expected. Looks like the gloves are off in the Lt. Gov Primary. This is BAD NEWS for our party. This race will split neighbors and activists and fracture our party. Too early to get nasty gentlemen seriously would someone please stay above the fray???? -ROM

CHARLIE ROSS LIES ABOUT PHIL BRYANT
New radio ad by Charlie Ross is a blatant lie about
Phil Bryant’s position on illegal immigration.

(Jackson, Miss.)-You can always tell when a political campaign is in trouble when they start attacking and lying about their opponent. That’s exactly the case with Charlie Ross’ most recent, blatantly false radio ad.

In one of Charlie Ross’ new radio ads regarding the pending immigration bill in Congress and amnesty for illegal aliens, Charlie Ross says “Phil Bryant says it’s a good bill.”

“I challenge Charlie Ross to produce an audio or video tape with Phil Bryant saying that, and because he won’t be able to produce it, Charlie Ross should take this false ad off the air if he has any sense of decency whatsoever” said Neil Forbes, campaign manager for Phil Bryant. Phil Bryant’s position was recently misstated by WLBT-TV, not by Phil Bryant. Phil Bryant has never said he supports amnesty for illegal aliens.

To clear up this situation, the following is a direct quote from Wendy Suares, reporter at WLBT-TV in Jackson:

“I can absolutely verify there is no audio or video of Phil Bryant saying he supports amnesty for illegal aliens. In numerous interviews I have done with him on the issue, he has clearly stated that he supports immigration reform on the federal level in order to strengthen the border, etc., but he is very against any legislation that would grant amnesty.”

Charlie Ross and Senator Richard White… and George Dale is a Democrat once again!

May 14, 2007

Updated..

Senator Richard White was in fact in attendance of the Charlie Ross fundraiser, I guess this counts as an endorsement.  Although Senator White only has 2k in the bank as of April 30.  How big of a stick does he carry?

Updated…..

Also:  Longtime Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale is back on the Democratic Party primary ballot — and he said he intends to win re-election.

Calhoun County Circuit Judge Henry Lackey reversed a Democratic Executive Committee decision that had removed Dale from the Aug. 7 party primary.

MySouth Fundraiser

May 8, 2007

Reporting in after quite a shindig at Providence Hill Farm.  I had a buddy showing his paintings so he took me along I cant afford the tickets so I never get to GO to these things and I’m sure my wide eyes stood out all night long.  It’s really great to see how the other half lives sometimes.

Sighted: Chip Pickering, Phil Bryant, Charlie Ross, Delbert Hosemann, Jeffrey Rupp, Deuce McAllister, a giant Ice Martini Luge and countless other notable people and items.

I was impressed by the event, Providence Hill Farm is a beautiful place, the horse barn (if you can call it that) was easily the most impressive sight of the evening.

The Art and Music very well represented the cultural side of the state,

And of course the wine was tasty and in abundant supply!

MySouth was a benefit for five charities: Teach for America, Palmer House for Children, Habitat for Humanity, Hope for Children and Jobs for Mississippi Graduates.

I would love to hear what others though about it.

Mississippi Politics 2007 Predictions

April 27, 2007

First ever Hat-Tip from ROM goes to Alan Lange at Mississippi Politics, I will do my own predictions for 07 later and hope to get down into to the legislative level.  As far as state-wide predictions go, this is the best I have seen, well rooted in REALITY.  Side note, personally I am rooting for some of these to be wrong but I am confident that Lange has created the most likely scenario.

Summary:

Governor: AL: Haley Barbour re-elected in a walk – and he will get 60%.

LT. Gov: AL- Bryant v. Ross in the primary is too close to call, but the winner will be the next Lieutenant Governor.

SOS: AL- Delbert Hosemann will be elected in a close primary (possibly a runoff) and a relatively easy general election.

AG: AL- The power of incumbency keeps Hood in office in a closer than expected contest.

Auditor: With Haley at the top of the ticket and Pickering’s name ID and political machine, Stacey Pickering will be your next Auditor.

AG Commissioner: The power of incumbency keeps Spell in office.

Insurance Commissioner: This race will likely come down to Dale vs. Chaney. Either way, Barbour wins

Working Hard For The Money – Charlie Ross

April 25, 2007

Mississippi campaigns are “working hard for the money” as they run up against the April 30th filing, I got my hands on a some fundraiser invitations from a few major campaigns. First off is this gem from an april 12th fundraiser in Vicksburg for Lt. Gov Candidate Charlie Ross.

I love fundraiser invites because they provide a little insight into who is snagging the big donors before filing reports are due. Quite a few big hitters on this one…

If anyone has any more, send them on and I will post them:
